Denture And Repairs

Dentures are false teeth that are worn to replace missing teeth. If you have missing teeth, wearing dentures can make eating and speaking easier. It can also avoid a loss of confidence in the way you look.

Full dentures –
A full denture is used to replace all teeth on the upper or lower jaw. The denture includes an acrylic base that looks like natural gums, which then sits over the gums after any existing teeth have been removed.

Partial dentures –
A partial denture is a solution when only a few teeth need to be replaced. The partial denture either attaches to crowns on either side of the denture or to a metal framework that is attached to the teeth on both sides of the partial denture. Partial dentures can be removable or they can be anchored in place by attaching them to dental implants.

The denture fabrication process takes approximately one month and roughly five appointments. After the initial diagnosis is made, impressions are made to determine proper jaw position. An appointment to “try-in” your new denture will be scheduled to assure proper colour, shape and fit. The final denture is then placed and any subsequent visits for needed adjustments are made.

Clean Your Dentures

Why you should clean your dentures?

Just like natural teeth dentures become dirty as they accumulate food debris, bacteria and plaque which can result in gum inflammation and potentially more gum disease, discolouration and bad breath

Cleaning your Dentures

The general rule is: brush, soak, brush. Always clean your dentures over a bowl of water or a folded towel in case you drop them. Brush your dentures before soaking, to help remove any food debris. Using an effervescent (fizzy) denture cleaner will help remove stubborn stains and leave your denture feeling fresher. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Then brush the dentures again, as you would your own teeth, being careful not to scrub too hard as this may cause grooves in the surface. Most dentists advise using toothpaste and a small to medium-headed toothbrush. Make sure you clean all the surfaces of the dentures, including the surface which touches your gums. This is especially important if you use any kind of denture fixative.
